Torchwood: Children of Earth

So, I've finally caught up on Torchwood. And seeing as there is no one here to talk about it with, I figured I'd bring it to Gwen's journal! Also included, some speculation on what canon changes will be made to her RP here.
First and foremost, Torchwood needs to stop making me cry.
What an exhausting week for our pups, fellow players! Honestly, I don't know what to make of all of it quite yet. It was probably one of the most soul-shattered things I've ever seen on television, even if Gwen was lucky enough to make it through AND not lose the baby (believe me, I was pretty much expecting it from the moment we found out.).
Don't know what the heck they're thinking, killing off Ianto. And the ending? If there is a series 4, it's going to be interesting to see how/if they bring Gwen and Jack back together.
I'm sort of (again) stuck between a rock and a hard place canon-updating Gwen. Even with canon!pregnancy, I'm always feeling awkward writing babyfic. That, and who knows what it is? What they'll name him/her? If we'll ever even see Gwen and Rhys and baby again?
That, and it certainly isn't going to help me pull Gwen from this emo place she's been since Owen and Tosh died. If anything, things have got slightly worse for her, happy baby times or no, so it's kind of up in the air right now as to what I'll be doing about canon updating her journal.
In short, found the series to be horrifying, emotionally draining, slightly predictable in places, but all in all pretty darn good and riveting. And Lois Habiba for Team Torchwood, anyone? Gwen wants her on board, you can count on that.
What did you guys think, in terms of the episodes and how the events will effect your pups?
Expect spoilers in comments.

Date: 2009-07-23 10:30 am (UTC)For my next miracle, I will update my own LJ!I was rather surprised, actually. I sort of feared that it would kill John off for me all together, which wasn't what I wanted. But then it finally got to the point I couldn't put it off anymore, and... Fwoomph. By the end, John was there and wanting to murder politicians. So! If nothing else, they can go on escapades? John half wants to join Torchwood now, just to see how it managed to burn Jack out.
Oh, I've been pretty decent. Life got crazy, it's been awesome. Hope you've been doing good too.

Date: 2009-07-23 04:15 pm (UTC)If you do that, I might actually check my LJs flist! ;-)Oh, boy, John in Torchwood will be awesome. Gwen will be so desperate to get back to doing something she'd probably even put up with John for a while. She'll stick Rhys with diaper duty and sneak out a window to go catch aliens with John.
Good! Life has been awesome and crazy for me as well. So it's nice to have some down time again!

Date: 2009-07-23 08:17 pm (UTC)Ooh. Maybe I should start doing that too. >.>Aw, she's not going to let John hold the baby? She knows she wants to. Go on, admit it.
But really, I've been trying to find excuses to stick John back with Torchwood for a while now. He'd be one of their least reliable members ever, but hey then again, efficient and just look at that training!
Glad you found some downtime. I'm pretending I have some? I just moved, nothing's unpacked...

Date: 2009-07-23 08:35 pm (UTC)Using LJ for something other than RP?? Why would anyone do that??Gwen wouldn't let John within twenty feet of the baby. And she thinks that's generous.
I kept hoping they'd bring him back... Hopefully they still will! You already know I love him, and he adds such a fun twist to the team. Hopefully you and I can find some time for good RPing if canon won't deliver what we want. B|
Pretending to have time is sooort of like actually having time? And you moved! How did that go? We really ought to catch up properly soon!
Sorry, I fail at HTML today.

Date: 2009-07-24 02:00 am (UTC)I know, right? Crazy! But he wants someone to talk to that understands how mean she is. Baby will understand. And so untrusting! Doesn't let either of them touch hot surfaces or sharp objects, horrible woman.
They may bring him back... I hope so, but do sort of doubt it. But then again, he may even show up in DW someday!
Hah.If he does come back, I'd think it would be fairly soon still... either way, I mostly hope they keep giving us hints about the Agency. And RP is totally the best way to get what you want. ^_^I did move! Well, I moved next door. So far it's gone pretty good. Gonna have to stop moving into my family's old houses, though, they keep leaving nasty junk in the fridge.

Date: 2009-07-24 02:24 am (UTC)What is the world coming to??Gwen is now considering shipping Rhys and Baby off to Canada whenever John shows up. Just as a precautionary to explosions and whatnot.
Well, I hope they bring him that. I'm hoping Torchwood, only because he and Jack and priceless, but I'll be happy with him in DW. They'd have to water him down an awful lot for DW, though, don't you think?
That's the worst, I remember when I moved into my Grandma's trailer and it took me a whole night to clear out the 'fridge. I don't know what it is with family and nasty refrigerators.

Date: 2009-07-24 02:29 am (UTC)It doesn't bear thinking of.Well, John will just have to go visit! It's only a few clicks away, after all, and what sort of friend would he be if he didn't say hello to the munchkin?
I hope Torchwood too (though Jack and John interaction chances look slim now, yeah? ooh, unless they came back for a cameo together), and honestly doubt he'd ever hit DW. Waaaay too much of him would have to be watered down.
It's the second time I've done it! And they both left me with ucky fridges. It's horrible. And disgusting. And I'm afraid to investigate too far, some of this is almost older than me.

Date: 2009-07-24 02:38 am (UTC)The Doctor would be ashamed.Gwen considered moving to a different planet, but seeing as that won't even help, she's resigned herself to a sigh and the hope she doesn't wind up on John's bad side again soon.
Yeah, I'm not even sure what the deal is with Torchwood at this point, and I never imagined it without Jack and Gwen, so if they don't plan to bring him back for good I don't even know. I would settle for a cameo by both, though, worst case scenario. OMG, or a spin off. Jack and John Do the Milky Way.
Yikes! Once was enough for me to never want to move into a family house again. However, a couple years ago I found a jar of pickles in the fridge that had expired ten years prior. It was kind of epic.

Date: 2009-07-24 02:48 am (UTC)He would be. Enjolras sure is.See? Though John's puzzled why people keep thinking he's going to kill them at a second's notice, it's not as if he's set a precedent or anything, *jedi handwave* that is not a body in the dumpster.
I am both glad and surprised that they took Jack out of the equation, to be honest. On one hand, I've no idea where Torchwood's going now, but god am I curious. On the other, it was the right thing to do for the character of Jack. And as much as CoE upset me in places and left me wondering... heaven help me, I'll be watching the next season as soon as I can get my grubby paws on it.
Dude, it's spin-off porno, it's epic! It could be a mini-series of porn. (Wow, that feels wrong talking about in this account, teaches me for being lazy.)
Wow. Epic pickles are very, very epic. o_O I didn't want to do this latest move, but I wasn't really given a choice. My parents decided they liked my grandparents' house (which I was in) better. So...

Date: 2009-07-24 02:45 pm (UTC)We have failed as a race! *weeps*Gwen's pretty much resigned to headdesking at this point. Oh, John, tsktsk.
And agreed! I will of course be bummed if we don't get Jack and Gwen back with it, but I'm still totally curious as to where it's going next. But really, like Crow and I were saying, it was the best thing Jack could do and the only thing that made sense for him to do at that point. If he hadn't left, that would have been so much worse for Jack.
OMG, a mini-series of porn. That is WAY more epic than old pickles. We really should... Like, copyright that or something.
So you just swapped houses? Eeep! Hopefully you like your parents' old house okay, then. Mum's been renovating our house, and it looks sooo different. And also my stuff went splodey and is everywhere, lol. But it's been sort of like moving, dragging things out of rooms and back in.

Date: 2009-07-24 09:59 pm (UTC)Nooo!John's job here is done. :D
And that is pretty much it exactly, yeah.
It is incredibly epic and if we copyright it we will be very rich indeed. It must be done!
Not only that, but we're next door to each other! I've been in this house my entire life and that one for about a year, so yeah I do like this one. It's also a LOT better than living in the basement, which is what I was doing over there. Mostly it's just the they-didn't-clean-at-all factor that I'm having to deal with, and the fact that this house has no storage whatsoever. I swear I'm going to end up keeping everything in the kitchen. And my bedroom is currently the color of pepto-bismol. But hey, renovations are cool! Even if everything tends to go kerpow.

Date: 2009-07-25 02:32 am (UTC)Alex also disapproves of mankind. :-(John, never change. &hearts
Our riches are so close, we shall be unbelievably famous. Annnd I bet JB would totally jump at it. ;-D
Wow, pepto-bismol walls are kind of amazing. I bet you will enjoy painting over them! The trailer I lived in was completely filthy and tiny tiny tiny. I kept everything in the living room, and I hated cooking in the kitchen because their were mice. After that I didn't mind moving back in with my parents... at least they actually clean, even if we're cluttery and still have no storage space. :-/

Date: 2009-07-25 03:21 am (UTC)So does Judas. D:Oh, he never will. &hearts &hearts &hearts
We're gonna make the big bucks!
There's no mice here, thank heaven, but there were in my grandparents' house. Luckily I have a cat? But yeah. I lived off a toaster and microwave, the kitchen was in the 'not mine' part of the house. So glad to have a kitchen.

Date: 2009-07-25 06:22 am (UTC)As does Camel, but he has many reasons to hate mankind.Soon we will be rich, Hawky. What will we do with all that glorious money?
Besides buy John Barrowman and James Marsters?Mice are aaawwwful, I hate living in houses with them. And it's great you have a kitchen! I was pretty much living off of coffee and what my nana would cook for me at her house, lol.

Date: 2009-07-25 07:14 am (UTC)Personally, first thing I'm doing with that money is going to Dragoncon. And Gallifrey One. And finishing some costuming.

Date: 2009-07-25 05:09 pm (UTC)Ooo I am already going to D*con, but not going broke sure would be nice. And I'll go to Gallifrey One with you! And then I can buy the awesome jacket I need to make an Alex Drake cosplay. XD

Date: 2009-07-25 10:19 pm (UTC)See, I'm completely broke, can't manage either. Need the porn money, clearly. Ooh, and I can buy lots and lots of fabric to work on my steampunk and pirates!

Date: 2009-07-26 08:15 am (UTC)There is great money in porn, and we are off to a fantastic start. And yay, steampunk!! And pirates! I wish you were going to D*con anyway, though. :-(
